In a period of declining magazine and newspaper sales, Hirer magazine, the recently revamped upmarket lifestyle and business glossy, continues to defy the recession, having sold out the entire retailed distribution of the last issue.
Greta Hill-Lyons, Editor of Hirer, said, “We recently relaunched Hirer to profile established and growing businesses in Scotland to inspire and promote what they do best. Our aim is to become the premier business publication in Scotland offering a positive platform for businesses to strengthen and promote their brand through good quality editorial and features.
“There are currently very few magazines published in Scotland of any quality covering that editorial ground and our aim was to fill that gap in the market with an inspirational magazine that can stake its claim on magazine stands in London, New York and Paris, as well as in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee. Our latest sales figures show that we are succeeding in our aim to fill that gap.
“We’re delighted that our mix of inspiring interviews, lifestyle pieces and upbeat news stories is proving so popular with readers and, as a result, plan to increase the print run for our forthcoming issue.
“That said, I’d urge readers of Hirer to get along to their newsagent quick to get their next copy. Cover star this month is Roman Rock of Bedlam Paintball, and there’s a great reader offer too!”
Featuring Steven Purcell leader of Glasgow City Council, Brian Williamson from Tiger Eye and Director of The Entrepreneurial Exchange, Mark O'Dowd Director of Operations with HBJ Gateley Waering, founder of the national Good Manners Day, and much much more, the next issue of Hirer is out next week whilst the June issue can now only be read online at www.thehirermagazine.co.uk.
With a readership of 40,000 and monthly subscriptions in excess of 5000 copies, Hirer is on sale throughout Scotland within newsagents and superstores through John Menzies.
In addition to the magazine, The Hirer provides a range of popular platforms, including an online jobs board, an online TV channel and a social networking site for employers to promote their brand values to existing and potential employees outwith traditional channels.

Notes to Editors
The Hirer brand was borne out of the TV programme of the same name – conceived by Hill-Lyons – whereby, rather than CV’s, a selection of candidates with a diverse range of career experiences are given tasks to do related to a vacancy and then assessed on their performance. The results show that many essential skills are transferable and provide an effective alternative means of recruitment to the traditional and often ineffective CV. A second series of The Hirer, for which Greta has joined forces with long-time friend Sandra McClumpha, MD of Fake Bake – is about to go into production as the firm embarks upon a rapid period of expansion with the aim of doubling its turnover to circa £1 million over the next 18 months.
