White van man becomes Eco Warrior?
Kevin Arrow, Age 34, owner of a successful Wickford based business, “Arrow Light Haulage”, has just won the Basildon District Business Award for Environmental Awareness, believed to be the first for a transport company. Kevin has operated his SME for 5 years, serving all destinations throughout the UK.
Winning the award has prompted Kevin to relaunch an innovative sustainable service for businesses and other organizations using pallet networks.
Kevin says:
"I have always tried to make my transport company ethical, sustainable and greener. I am aware that local organizations send pallets from Essex to Kent via a hub in the Midlands. It is cheaper of course, but this practice has a real negative impact on the environment by wasting significant quantities of fuel. I am of the opinion that customer expectations will embrace Government green initiatives and only suppliers and carriers that have a provable carbon neutral policy will have a sustainable business in the future”.
That’s the Challenge and it seems that Arrow Light Haulage is fast becoming part of the solution. Firstly they talked with a variety of customers. Then analyzed the feedback that was very positive towards any initiative that reduced air pollution without adding costs. From this a simple and customer friendly concept emerged. Which is to collect and deliver pallets on the same vehicle by the end of the next day. This service is greener by reducing fuel consumption, possible damage to goods and is a cost efficient way of providing customer satisfaction. This resulted in the relaunch of Arrow Pallet.
