Business Development Manager

Alliance Medical Ltd.

(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Hospital & Health Care industry)


1992 — 2001 (9 years)


In 1992 invited to join Alliance Medical as their first Sales and Marketing Manager.

After 3 years, became the Business Development Manager with primary responsibility for developing the static MRI business within the NHS.

Successful in negotiating 9 x 10 year contracts providing static MRI facilities within NHS hospitals under the Government’s Private Finance Initiative.

Set up and ran a tendering department.

During a period of about 5 years, I was responsible for winning contracts valued in excess of £80M.

Actively involved with 2 “6 Sigma” Projects working with GE Medical Systems to evaluate and assess the viability for developing PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and Cardiac MRI in the UK.

Responsible for developing a Cardiac MRI service.

Provided training and support to all newly appointed members of the sales team.

When I left Alliance Medical in 2001 their turnover was £55M with an operating profit of over 20% compared to a £3M turnover when I joined them.


Private Sector Manager - Regional Sales Manager

June 1989 — September 1992 (3 years 4 months)


Responsible for selling Diagnostic and Therapeutic Equipment nationally to Private Hospitals throughout the UK.


Responsible for all of the key “entrepreneurial” accounts that were massively increasing at the time, particularly in the new and growing field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.


After approximately I year, I was invited to take up the post of Regional Sales Manager. The Region was later doubled in size to the largest region in the country with annual sales targets of £8M and including all the major teaching hospitals across London and the South of England.
